Of all the flowers in an English summer garden the daisy is, perhaps, one of the most endearing. However, it’s habit of trespassing, in small groups and on previously weed free lawns, bestows upon it a reputation for gate-crashing the floral party. Signs shouting ‘Keep off the Grass’ are wasting their breath as these little flowers dance rings around any horticultural authority. With their bright, innocent faces, and early nights, they are destined to be picked at their prime and strung together to be worn as crowns, or stripped of their petals as they are plucked out one by one…..
How to Make a Crochet Daisy
This simple crochet daisy can be worked in a range of different colours and weights of yarn, but we love the simple combination of yellow and white as it seems to work with any colour story.
For our sample we used The Mercerie’s super soft merino wool in cheerful sunshine yellow and cloud white.
Using Sunshine yellow begin with 5 chains.
Join these into a ring with a slip stitch.
Round 1: 1ch, 11 dc into the middle of the ring,
ss with cloud colour yarn into the first chain.
Round 2: The 12 petals are worked as follows: *(7ch, 2dc into 2nd ch from hook, 5htr) 1dc into next dc on round 1. Repeat from * until you have made 12 petals. Finish with a ss into the first chain.
Fasten off thread, and sew in ends.
And you’re done!
Now you can settle down and make yourself a whole daisy chain. Why not use it to update your partners old gardening hat?
In fact – why don’t you crochet him a brand new hat??
