Come and see a display of beautiful crochet blankets made on my Homage to the (Granny) Square course at Norfolk Yarn in 2018.
The work will be on display for the duration of the festival in The Forum, Norwich.
This is the first in a Four Part Crochet Course designed for anyone with some basic crochet knowledge who is looking to develop their skills, learn new techniques and make something beautiful in a friendly and supportive environment.
The next 3 workshops will be held on these dates:
March: Fri 15thApril: Fri 12thMay: Fri 10th
We will look at a different crochet square in each class, and these will get successively more complex throughout the course allowing you to build on your skills and learn new techniques as you work on your own unique and beautiful crochet blanket.
Throughout the course we will cover a wide range of stitches and techniques which you will be able to apply to future projects with confidence and skill –
Topics covered will include:
- Basic colour theory and choosing your own unique colour palette
- Reading, and demystifying, crochet stitch diagrams
- Working a range of different crochet stitches
- How to join squares to achieve a professional finish.
- Blocking and edging
The course fee includes 10 balls of Rowan Felted Tweed and you can choose your own colours from the full range at Sew Much to Do, so you know that your finished blanket will be utterly gorgeous!
Please be aware that you will need to purchase more yarn to complete a full size blanket.
Your finished blanket will measure approximately 100 x 130 cm and you will need up to 20 balls of yarn in total.
Each class will be tailored to individual abilities and will be informal, informative and lots of fun.
You don’t need to be an experienced crocheter; knowing the basics would be an advantage, but you will learn ‘on the job’ and quickly build up your skills.
If you have any further questions about this course drop me an email and I’ll get back to you;

Do you love fashion, textiles or interior design – but tend to ‘play safe’ with colours you are familiar with? Or perhaps you avoid certain colours because you associate them with negative experiences.
I can show you how, with a few simple rules, you can gain colour confidence and create stunning combinations for your textiles – and any other area of your life that needs a colour overhaul!
The day will include:
- ‘Hands on’ painting sessions enabling you to fully understand, and enjoy, the creation of a colour wheel.
- Demystifying colour terminology and the relationship between hues.
- How to generate exciting colour harmonies by following, and breaking, ‘the rules’
- Creating yarn combinations and unique colour palettes for your textile projects.
- Understanding the significance of proportion.
- Insights into the psychology and symbolism surrounding colour.
- A kick start into your own colour journaling.
By the end of this workshop you will have the skills to evaluate colours more effectively and feel more confident in how you explore and apply colour in your own work.
All materials and equipment will be supplied, we’ll use high quality brushes, paper and water based paints and you’ll also be supplied with a journal to keep your notes and experiments in.
We’ll be working with water based paints so you may need to bring a painting shirt or wear appropriate clothing.
We’ll have a 30 minute break for lunch; light refreshments will be provided but please bring your own lunch with you.
Places on this workshops will be strictly limited.
