My Story

Hi, I’m Sue, and welcome to The Mercerie where you can find courses, online CALs and patterns for all my designs.

I design products for the 21st Century that retain the values of traditional craft: good design, natural materials and function. I make products that are designed to be used and loved – and I’d like to help you do the same.

The Mercerie was launched in 2012 in my kitchen somewhere near Norwich, Norfolk and I have a straightforward mission; to design beautiful products – and help others to make them.

Time is priceless and should be invested carefully so I like to design beautiful products, using natural yarns, that can be enjoyed by generations, and treasured for many years to come. Why would you want to make anything less?

With a degree and an MA in Textile Design, and as an experienced teacher in art education I love working with creative people, sharing ideas and trying out new ways of doing things, so please – tell me what you think, show me what you’re making and don’t forget you can stay in the loop by registering for my newsletter.
