THIS COURSE WILL RUN AGAIN IN OCTOBER 2021
Is your crochet missing that elusive Wow Factor?
Do you lose interest after that initial buzz of starting a new CROCHET project?
Would you like to be better acquainted with your creative, intuitive soul?
Are you bored of your favourite ‘go to’ colours?
If you can answer yes to any of the above questions – Homage to the (Granny) Square is the perfect course for you.
You probably already know that I’ve been fiddling with the idea of running my courses online for some time now. But finally the stars are in perfect alignment so I’m thrilled to be kick starting my online crochet courses with this hugely popular crochet course.
“This is the most glorious course….I urge anyone to sign up who would like to explore colour, crochet and joy with a truly fabulous person…..you won’t regret it.” Kathy
This course has been running in a number of lovely local yarn shops in the UK since April 2018 and I’m delighted to be able to offer it to you now as a six month programme of remote learning.
Homage to the (Granny) Square is aimed at anyone who can do some crochet basics (that means you can hold the hook, the yarn and maybe work a couple of stitches) everything else you need to know will be learnt ‘on the job’ as you work your way through 142 glorious crochet squares.
Over 6 months you’ll create a uniquely beautiful crochet blanket whilst learning new skills and developing your crochet and colour confidence. Regular tutorials in the form of detailed PDF’s and video tutorials will guide you through every stage of this project from choosing your colours, working a wide range of crochet stitches and tips on how to achieve a professional finish.
The course will launch AGAIN in October 2021!
Homage to the (Granny) Square: Online Course includes
*An initial series of colour theory activities and exercises designed to help you with you colour choices and ensuring jaw dropping results.

“If you’re thinking of joining Sue for the Online Homage…..go for it! Sue has been a wonderfully supportive, encouraging, inspiring, kind, positive, thoughtful and more tutor. She’s also a colour diva! Do I need to say more….” Jane
FAQ’s.
I JUST WANT TO CROCHET, DO I HAVE TO DO THE COLOUR EXERCISES?
The colour workshops form the foundation for everything that happens next and I believe that to get the very best out of this experience an understanding of colour and colour theory is essential. Of course you don’t have to do anything, but it is included as part of the course.
WHAT YARN WILL BE USING AND HOW MUCH WILL I NEED?
This project was designed specifically for Rowan Felted Tweed and you’ll need 20x 50gm balls to complete the project. 10 different colours in total.
CAN I USE A DIFFERENT YARN?
Of course you can work with whatever yarn you like but I won’t be able to advise you on alternatives. The thing that generally attracts people to this project is the quality of the colours and a different yarn will produce a very different looking blanket.
WHERE CAN I BUY MY FELTED TWEED?
There are Rowan stockist in many countries: here’s a store locator and downloadable list of suppliers. Also, once the course is live I can help you find UK based retailers that will ship abroad.
WILL YOUR INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDE LEFT HANDED INFORMATION, AMERICAN TERMINOLOGY AND BE WRITTEN IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES?
Yes, I include left handed videos and stitch diagrams in my tutorials.
My patterns will only be available in English, using UK crochet terminology.
WHAT OTHER MATERIALS OR EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?
I’ll upload a full list of requirements when the course goes live.
You’ll need some paints, a couple of brushes, paper, scissor and glue, in addition to the crochet stuff. But I always try to keep expenses down and you don’t need to invest in expensive art materials. Poster paints will be just fine.
I DON’T LIVE IN THE UK- CAN I STILL DO THE COURSE?
Yes! It’s very everyone 🙂
HOW CAN I REGISTER?
I’ll open a new waitlist for this course soon and I’ll also share full details online , on my website and in my newsletter when booking s are open.
I hope that’s enough information for you for now. And I really hope that you’ll be joining me on this colour and crochet journey (yes I do enjoy hackneyed metaphors and cliches!)
The best way to find out when this course has launched is to sign up for my newsletter and I’ll keep you in the loop: https://www.themercerie.co.uk/newsletter/
Hi
I know it says the signs ups have closed. But I notice on Patreon they still seem to be open for this.
I would love to sign up. Please let me know if this class is still available.
Thank you
Carol G
I know the class is closed, but is there any chance that I can still join, please?
Thank you!
Best,
Nira
Hi Nira, I’m planning to run this again if there’s enough demand so it’s probably best to hang on and start with a new group from the beginning. If you register for my newsletter you’ll hear when I’m ready to relaunch and I hope you’ll be able to join me. Best wishes, Sue
I’m also too late for this one but would love to do this particular blanket when you run it again please.
